I got a new job and am moving! Hooray!

I can't make new custom masks or dice! Boo!

So yeah, because I'll be moving and won't have studio space, I won't be able to cast any molded masks, sculpt custom masks, or cast dice. These items have been suspended from my Etsy shop until after I move and have studio space set up. It's atrocious timing what with Halloween next month, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

If you've already ordered any of these items- don't worry! I will be sure to get your orders to you before all of this happens. I'm just not accepting any NEW custom/molded/dice orders.
Whew! Been pretty busy making a new molded masks and a couple of hand sculpted ones. Drop by the gallery namingway.deviantart.com/galle… if you want to check them out. I had quite a few problems with the mold for the griffin mask. The first one I made tore immediately so I had to make another. Bah, I say!

Anyhow, hopefully there will be even more mask updates soon. I've been running catch up with commissions until fairly recently. Also, if I were to offer another kind of die, what what would you guys like to see on it? Lions? Griffins? Kobolds? Cupcake fairies? :P I'd be interested to know.
Yep, my mask shop is having a Black Friday sale. It'll run from today through Monday. Masks with "Black Friday Sale" in front of them are on sale during that time. robinred.etsy.com
The new mold for the dragon dice holders is all finished and working fine! Both the metallic and custom colors are available.

A heads up. My molded masks (the wolf, dragon, cat, etc) are now made out of environmentally friendly bioresin. The resin has 43% plant based biocontent and no volatile chemicals (VOCs).
Just wanted to let you guys know that I have temporarily suspended the listings for the dragon dice holders. Working on a new mold for them. However, already existing orders will certainly be fullfilled, so no worries there. =)
Welp! Christmas rush is over, and New Years is done with. Next stop- Mardi Gras! One of these days I really want to make it down to New Orleans myself. In the meantime, though, I'll just have to focus on making sure things are shipped promptly. =D

Also, it's unlikely I'll be at GenCon this year. :{ Sorry, folks. I would love to- I did quite well- but it falls during a transition time for me as I finish up classes, so it's just not feasible.

I just wrote a sequel to my article on pen types for artists. I hadn't included fountain pens in the original, and I've been increasingly using them. So here's an analysis of several different kinds, as well as how useful I found them for sketching and drawing comics- red-robin-arts.com/fountain-pe…

Yep! It's that time of year! I've started a Black Friday sale over on my Etsy site. www.etsy.com/shop/robinred Many of my masks, goggles, and sketch cards are marked down. The sale will last through Cyber Monday, but things sell on a first come first serve basis so I cannot guarantee an item will still be there on Monday.

New article over at Red Robin Arts! red-robin-arts.com/art-program… I decided to cover a couple of programs that beginning digital artists might consider trying out to get into the craft. Sure, professionals often use expensive software...but if you want to try your hand at it, there are some affordable alternatives. I tried to keep my reviews to freeware or software under $100. red-robin-arts.com/art-program…

I forgot to mention that I finally linked my Spreadshirt site to the Red Robin Arts site. The store there should now display all of the Real Life Fiction shirts, the Mixed Myth shirt, the steampunk plague doctor one, and the Klimt-style alien shirt. Processing and hosting is still done through Spreadshirt, but at least the two are connected now! I plan on also hooking it up to the main RLF site, but haven't quite gotten to it yet. Here's a rundown of the shirts- red-robin-arts.com/shirts-stea…

At any rate, I'll be gone from tomorrow through Sunday to a con. See you guys on Monday!

The tutorial series may be complete, but I thought I'd add a couple of additional coloring tips for people to consider. These are just some quick things that you can use for both digital and traditional coloring. New article with a couple of tips for coloring! Applicable for both digital and traditional mediums. red-robin-arts.com/tips-colori…

Also! I'm going to be off again from Wed to Sun. Art show hoooo!

BTW, I'll be traveling from July 14-Aug 3. I've had a LOT to do, so the main RLF site will e showing some of my other comics during that time. As for my shop, I will suspend that on Thursday and reopen it when I get back.

There will be an RLF this week, though!

A lot of people complained about the price of the dragon dice holder. Now, even though it is molded it does take a lot of time to make. There are still many aspects of it that I have to do by hand- forming the piece, making the inner lip, and of course painting it. That last step, especially.

However, clearly I need to compromise. I mean, it does no one any good if it's priced too high- I make no money, and the people who would love to have one find that they just can't afford it.

My solution is this: There are now TWO versions of the dragon dice holder, both using the same mold. They are as follows:

Holder #1 is slightly more expensive. It includes a custom color scheme- if you want a blue dragon with silver wings on a red background or the like, I can do that. This version is $65. www.etsy.com/listing/103773804…

Holder #2 is less expensive, but has a limited color scheme. It has a black background and your choice of a gold, silver, or copper dragon. This version is $55. www.etsy.com/listing/103910887…

The next part of my comic coloring tutorials is about panels and gutters. You can see it here! red-robin-arts.com/digital-com…

Please do let me know what you think of the tutorials so far. Are they confusing? Too detailed? Not detailed enough?

I'm working on more masks for some art festivals that are coming up. In particular, I need to get cracking on some more molded masks. I have some ideas, but I thought I should get some feedback. What kinds of molded masks would you guys like to see? Any particular subject matter?

The next article on how I color my comics is up. This one covers how to convert your bitmap line art to vector, and back again- all using Inkscape. Doing this cleans up my line art and allows me to do coloring quickly later on. The article is located here- red-robin-arts.com/digital-com…

Hey guys! I just did an overhaul of the main Real Life Fiction site rlfcomic.com The theme is very similar to the original, but it's now done with Wordpress. The elements should get nearly as jumbled as they were before and it should hopefully be a lot more compatible with different browsers/OSes, etc. It's certainly a lot easier to maintain!

I haven't transfered the comments from the old site yet. I think there is a way to do that...I just need to muddle thought it.

Just started a series on how I color my comics. The first article is up! red-robin-arts.com/digital-com… Because I have tendinitis, I had to come up with a coloring method that is fast, looks good, and is easy on my hand (i.e. don't have to apply a lot of mouse/stylus pressure for long periods of time). The first article talks about that, as well as covering some important terms- raster vs vector images, for example, and what fill coloring is and how it can be done properly.
